Matariki 2014

The celebrations for 2014 included:

@ Pataka Art+ Museum

  • Featuring a range of events and exhibitions marking Matariki, guest speaker Maori Artist Simon Lardelli, Tuatara gallery featuring a magical ‘Light’ children’s space, art making, story-telling, bus tours to Ngati Toa sites. Bus tour to all regional galleries on the evening of July 3 - www.pataka.org.nz

@ Te Rauparaha Arena

  • Kapo Kapo Kids 2014:  Five nights of performances in the Te Rauparaha Arena (June 23-27), 37 local schools (Maori & Pasifika). Door charge
  • Kapo Kapo Matariki Market 2014: Te Rauparaha Arena. Saturday June 28th . Maori/Pasifika arts, crafts & kai. For more information and/or to register your stall go to http://www.kapokapo.co.nz
  • Exhibits to be mounted at the Te Rauparaha Arena during the Kapo Kapo events. These will profile the amazing work of Visual Arts and Photography students from Whitireia New Zealand - www.whitireia.ac.nz

@ Porirua Skate Park (Te Rauparaha Park, Norrie Street, Porirua)

  • Members of the local skateboarding community are working on a short ‘pop-up’ Matariki inspired Lights routine which will feature at the park (weather permitting) at 9.30pm Mon June 23, Wed June 25, Fri June 27. @ Emerging Light Gallery, Steyne Avenue, Plimmerton 

  • Featuring Matariki inspired art works produced by children from Pukerua Bay, St Teresa’s and Plimmerton Schools during the week 23-27 June
